Failed Science

 

Christian apologists are masquerading as scientists. Organizations like The Institute for Creation Research work hard presenting psuedo-science as a legitimate rebuttal to the evidence produced by mainstream science. Their arguments for biblical creation are consistently rejected by secular scientists with actual accredited degrees. Secular science starts with the evidence and follows it to a reasoned conclusion. Apologists start with the conclusion and twist the evidence to meet their mythology. This is a wildly dishonest approach to science! Keep in mind, even IF a reasonable scientific argument could be made for the existence of a god, it would NOT get you anywhere near that god being the Abrahamic god. So, read the words in the bible and let words mean what words mean!

 

Fail! The bible claims the earth is flat. It is no coincidence that modern "flat earthers" are almost exclusively bible believers.

Isa 40:22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth

The Hebrews did have a word for a ball ( דּוּר "dur" )which was not used in this passage. They used the word for circle ( ח֣וּג "ḥūḡ" ) because from their perspective, the earth was flat and like a disc.

Job 38:12 Have you commanded the morning since your days began and caused the dawn to know its place,13 so that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it?14 It is changed like clay under the seal, and it is dyed like a garment. Spheres don't have edges so they don't have skirts. This metaphor only works if the earth is flat. Also, clay under a seal is shaped like a flat disc which is what the writer thought the earth was shaped like.

Job 38:4 Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?6 On what were its bases sunk,or who laid its cornerstone. The imagery of stretching a line and laying a cornerstone is evidence the bible writers thought the earth was flat. 

Mat 4: 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory

This is not poetic language. The only way it would be possible for Jesus to see the whole world from a mountain is if the earth was flat.  

 

Fail! The bible claims the earth is 6000 years old.

The long held religious belief that the Earth is approximately 6,000 years old is derived from biblical genealogies and interpretations of the creation account in Genesis. It is only in the past  hundred years or so that many believers have buckled under the immense weight of scientific evidence and abandoned this silly position. However, most fundamentalist Christians still believe in a young earth because that's what the bible says is true! The actual age of the earth is approximately 4.5 billion years.

Fail! The bible claims the story of Noah's ark is true.

This silly claim is proven  false by an overwhelming consensus of scientists. Do not ignore the mass murder that Yahweh committed in this story. He killed everyone, babies and the unborn included. If it wasn’t on the ark or a fish, it died. What a loser god! Yahweh allegedly has unlimited power and this is the best he can do? Here are some links that debunk this bad work of fiction.

Fail! The bible doesn't understand how animal hides are colored.

Gen 30: 37 Then Jacob took fresh rods of poplar and almond and plane and peeled white streaks in them, exposing the white of the rods. 38 He set the rods that he had peeled in front of the flocks in the troughs, that is, the watering places, where the flocks came to drink. And since they bred when they came to drink, 39 the flocks bred in front of the rods, and so the flocks produced young that were striped, speckled, and spotted.

WTF? Placing a striped rod in front of breeding animals does not produce striped offspring. This is a terrific example of the superstitious nonsense of that time.

 

Fail! The bible doesn't know certain animals don't chew their cud

Lev 11:5 The rock badger, for even though it chews the cud, it does not have divided hoofs; it is unclean for you. 6 The hare, for even though it chews the cud, it does not have divided hoofs; it is unclean for you. 

Neither animal chews its cud. You would think the creator of the universe would know this.

 

Fail! The bible thinks some flying insects have four legs.

Lev 11:22 Of them you may eat: locusts of every kind, bald locusts of every kind, crickets of every kind, and grasshoppers of every kind. 23 But all other winged insects that have four feet are detestable to you.

Again, Yahweh doesn’t understand his own creation or he can’t count.
